Question of the Week #27

Welcome to the twenty-seventh edition of the Question of the Week.

What do you think is the best starting place for those that are new to reading the Bible or for those wanting to get reacquainted with the Word?

My answer---
I recommend the gospel of John.

For somebody new to it I definitely wouldn't recommend doing it the way I am. Starting at page one.

I think the Gospel of John would be good it starts out almost like a poem.

I think some sort of guidebook to where they can do a survey of the high points would be helpful.

However I never got anywhere in understanding the Bible until I joined a Bible study group led by somebody knowledgeable about it. Then it started to make sense and came alive as something really meaningful.

A study group would be my first recommendation - you need to have someone to talk with about what you are reading. And I think Mark and Genesis are good starts - giving a good accounting of the creation and God's plan and Mark being the first gospel written and fairly easy to read.
