Resolution Tips from the Apostle Paul

Do you make resolutions for the new year? Do you keep them if you make them? What would biblical resolutions look like? What tips could the Apostle Paul give to us when it comes to living life this year and every year?

  • Be a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1)
  • Don't be conformed to the world; set your heart on things above (Romans 12:2; Colossians 3:2)
  • Think rightly (Philippians 4:8)
  • Be sincere in one's loving; Be devoted to others;  Do everything in love; Bear with one another in love; Be kind and compassionate; Walk in the way of love; (Romans 12:9,10; 1 Corinthians 16:14; Ephesians 4:2, Ephesians 4:32, Ephesians 5:2)
  • Cling to what is good; Hate what is evil (Romans 12:9, 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22)
  • Be zealous in service to the Lord (Romans 12:11)
  • Be joyful in hope (Romans 12:12)
  • Be patient in affliction (Romans 12:12)
  • Be faithful in prayer (Romans 12:12; Ephesians 6:18; Philippians 4:6, 1 Thessalonians 5:17)
  • Practice hospitality (Romans 12:13)
  • Bless everyone, even those who persecute (Romans 12:14)
  • Rejoice those who rejoice (Romans 12:15, 1 Thessalonians 5:16)
  • Rejoice in the Lord always (Philippians 4:4, 1 Thessalonians 5:16)
  • Mourn with those who mourn (Romans 12:15)
  • Live at peace with everyone; Live in harmony with one another (Romans 12:18, Romans 12:16)
  • Live to the Lord; Die to the Lord; Romans 14:8)
  • Stand firm in the faith (1 Corinthians 16:13, Ephesians 6:14-17)
  • Make the most of every opportunity (Ephesians 5:16)
  • Understand what the will of the Lord is (Ephesians 5:17)
  • Be courageous (1 Corinthians 16:13)
  • Be strong (1 Corinthians 16:13)
  • Be humble and gentle (Ephesians 4:2; Philippians 4:5, Colossians 3:12)
  • Be forgiving (Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13)
  • Be thankful always (Ephesians 5:20, 1 Thessalonians 5:18)
  • Value others more than self (Philippians 2:3)
  • Don't argue; Don't grumble; Don't complain (Philippians 2:14)
  • Hold firmly to the Word of Life; Value knowing Christ more than anything (Philippians 2:16; Philippians 3:8)
  • Devote yourself to reading Scripture (1 Timothy 4:13)
  • Pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace (2 Timothy 2:22)
